PARKER WINS 2014 KYLE MACY AWARD

DALLAS, TX -- Duke's Jabari Parker is the recipient of the 2014 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award.

Parker’s outstanding freshman season included several milestones including becoming just the fourth freshman in ACC history to lead the league in rebounding. He scored 20 or more points in a game 18 times for the second-best freshman mark in conference history and concluded the year with 670 points to become just the third player in ACC history to score 650 or more points as a freshman.

The Kyle Macy award is presented annually to the top freshman in Division I college basketball. The 1975 Indiana "Mr. Basketball" played his freshman season at Purdue University. Macy averaged 13.8 points a game as a freshman, while leading the Boilermakers in free throws, shooting .859 percent from the line on the season. He started in 25 of 27 games, helping them to a 16-11 season record.

After playing his freshman year at Purdue, Macy transferred to the University of Kentucky in 1976. He started every game for the Wildcats in 1977. A three-time All-America and three-time All-SEC player, Macy was a member of Kentucky's 1978 National Championship team. In his senior year of 1979-80, he became the first Kentucky player ever to be named consensus Southeastern Conference Player of the Year.

The Kyle Macy award voting panel is made up of current division I coaches, athletic administrators, and senior College Insider staff members.  The recipient of the 2024-25 award will be announced in April, in San Antonio, TX site of the men's Division I NCAA Basketball Championship.

The Kyle Macy award is presented annually to the top freshman player in division I college basketball, as voted on by the award committee. 
 
The 10-member voting committee consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com.
 
The award is presented annually at the site of the men's Division I NCAA basketball championship.
